And from a South African perspective, I think we came out of this encounter with a far greater degree of dignity than President Trump managed.
And that is going to stand us in good stead because, Don, we also forget that not everyone is playing whatever game Trump and America are playing.
South Africa are playing their own game.
And one of their major foreign policy objectives is to establish South Africa as a kind of leader of the global South, as a moral conscience of the world.
And I think this meeting will have done a lot to enhance South Africa's reputation and efforts towards achieving that.
So this was a really illuminating moment because
In South Africa, and for way of background for viewers who haven't been following this, South Africa is leading the case against Israel at the International Court of Justice.
That's the World Court.
It's a UN court basically alleging that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.
That case is ongoing.
And in South Africa, we thought that maybe some of the U.S.
animosity towards South Africa was coming from that.
We know that Trump and Israel and the American Israel are very, very close.
And we thought, well, you know, we're going after Israel in the courts.
Maybe this is punishment for that.
It was astonishing that President Trump did not seem to know what case he
the reporter was asking about, certainly, you know, didn't take the chance to bring Israel into the equation whatsoever.
And what it reinforced for me is that this is not about that case.
It's not about South Africa's stance on Israel.
It's not about South Africa's support for Palestine, but rather it is coming from white right groups that have Trump's ear.
