And look, I want to be respectful to those providers.
But I mean, the number of people leaving core funding is far lower than the number entering core funding.
And those figures are publicly available.
So the number of people entering core funding is increasing.
It is a valid point, though, to say if we just talk about cost, I know them, some of them are my neighbours and friends, and if they hear me talking about reducing costs, they'll say, that's grand, Simon, but I can't get a place.
So, I mean, what we're doing, and Minister Norma Foley is doing a very good job on this, what we're doing is putting together, I suppose, a roadmap on childcare that looks at, so you've seen us now using public money to build facilities for the first time ever.
Looking at staffing, you've seen us provide money for additional staffing.
Looking at the funding model and also looking at the, let's call it the subsidy model, the amount that a parent gets towards the cost of childcare.
Those four things need to move together.
And the commitment is clear, €200 per child per month in the lifetime of this government.
That's what I think every party is going to have to do.
That will be about it for the 6th of October.
But can we make progress on it in this budget?
We have to.
And I believe we can show the way forward in this budget.
I believe we can show the people of Ireland how we're going to deliver on that commitment to take a good step forward in this budget.
I can't.
And we haven't done that.
We've 77 days to go.
So we have to work our way through these things.
