That's not the case anymore.
But I think our education system is still based on that assumption that everybody's doing that.
And we just need, I think, really to be fair to everybody and to respect people's beliefs.
We need a system where every child in every school, no matter where they go to, is treated with the same dignity and respect.
Yeah, I mean, look, I hear this quite a lot and it's, you know, look, again, I need to say that I'm not here to try and convert anyone to my way of thinking.
The thing is, that's all well and good for families that have that choice.
I'm hearing, you know, the word choice a lot.
I mean, look,
I live in Carlow where there's one school that people can go to that isn't religious.
Father Paddy is in a county where there is one school in the entire county where people can go to.
And to me, I'm interested in how do all children, how do all families win essentially in this discussion?
How do we involve all families, not just the ones that have this one day out here?
And what I'd love to see is a situation where
where all families can go to their local primary school in their community.
And if they have faith and they wish to celebrate that, that that's a community event that just doesn't affect the school day.
And it isn't that difficult to do.
I mean, essentially,
Moving the sacramental preparation and moving religious instruction just after the school day would give everybody equal respect during the school.
I don't think it's too much to ask.
Yeah, we're actually in the process of it right now in our own house.
