So while our budget is around like $5,000 US dollars a month, we started thinking, well what if we bought because maybe we could get a mortgage for that price.

And so we started looking at apartments in New York

And one, I was surprised to see that overseas buyers can buy property in the US because in New Zealand it is very difficult for overseas buyers to buy property in New Zealand unless the property is over like five million US dollars, which is about like 2.7 USD.

And the housing that we could afford, they had very high

HOA fees, I think it's what it's called, like fees associated with

the upkeep and the maintenance of the building.

And some of them were like

Like a you could get an apartment for like seven hundred thousand USD and we're like, okay, we could actually like make that work.

But then the HOA fees are like two thousand, three thousand dollars a month on top of the mortgage.

And as someone that's only gonna be living there temporarily, we decided we're just gonna rent.

And I just think that's gonna be the best option for us, even though it goes against everything I've been taught as a Indian woman.

You do not get taught that renting is good.

You get told it's like a waste of money and that you should buy.

So I think there's a little bit of unlearning that I'm gonna have to do, but

I'm gonna be a renter.

I'm gonna have a landlord.

And I've rented before, so it's obviously fine, but it'll be an experience again.

Oh, a good question that came up is someone said, How will the high cost of New York living and the USD affect your financial independence?

So I've been really, really, really lucky that my life has become work optional, where work is something I get to do.

And I do it because I love it.
