But they insisted that the strategy was working.
Well, firstly, all of the policies and procedures they had were the gold standard.
But if they had another strategy or no strategy, they think the number of deaths would in fact be higher.
We live in a governance vacuum, sure luck it.
I mean, so there is what is called a road safety leadership group.
And again, you have to assume that all of these people, they are the experts in road safety.
Now, when I spoke to the Department of Transport, they said there are a very wide number of people that we consulted.
We have brought a lot of people into the tent on this.
We are getting expert opinions across the board.
But this is nearly the problem, right?
Because now you have many, many people who are all experts and they have their one policy and their one area of expertise that they have brought into this.
And of course, that is what you want and need.
But again, they're focused on the process of creating a strategy and not on the outcome of the strategy.
And so I said, okay, well, which of this, the many people in the leadership group should I ring to ask why number of deaths are increasing?
Now I know full well, because I've been involved with doing various things with the government for most of my career.
The government is a very, very different beast than the private sector and corporations.
