Because she was nine years older and much, much cooler, obviously, than me, she did at one point get a roll of masking tape and tape down the middle of the room so that I would not besmirch her side of the room with my childishness.
items or aspects of her side of the room?
Oh, she had a diary that I loved to look at because she was very crafty.
And, you know, in the 80s, I think this was a real thing to sort of scrapbook your diary with little, she would cut out little hearts and things that would sort of boing out of the diary on little folded up bits of paper.
I just thought it was the most wonderful thing.

She had great things.
She had great clothes.
She had great lipsticks.
She was just cool.
Where were you sent when she had her boyfriend over?
So by the time she got to the boyfriend, my eldest sister had moved out, so I had my own room.
But I would still love to go into hers because it was way better than mine, but I was sent out and the door was shut.

I remember this carpeted hallway.
And I would lie down on the floor of the hallway and put my ear to the carpet and try and squint under the gap in the door just to see what...
what was going on in there.
And I didn't, in my young mind, I never would have thought anything untoward was going on.
I just really wanted to be part of the team, you know, and I would get little bits, balls of paper and flick them under there just to garner some attention until she would come out and rage at me.
