It's made me pretty tentative about who I tell and made me consider discretion and like maybe not self-disclosing to everyone, which I don't really want to do.
I don't want to lie about my work, to be honest.
But a lot of my friends do this.
A lot of my friends in the industry don't tell people until they trust them.
And I'm wondering if that's something I have to take up.
Once I dated a man who I really liked, and he was radically left and had really progressive views on relationships, so I trusted it, you know?
But he knew about my job from the start, and there was one time when we were on a date where I just mentioned in passing that I would never change my job for anyone.
And the next time I saw him, he actually ended it with me.
Me saying that I wouldn't change my work for anyone was a deal breaker for him, which really sucked because I guess I felt like he approached our dynamic assuming that I would change who I am if things progressed further.
In terms of like conflict and breakups, often people will use my job as leverage to avoid accountability for their actions.
And this has happened to friends of mine as well.
It always comes up in conflict.
Instead of like actually approaching an issue, like they'll be like, oh, but you sell sex for money.
But you strip.
You get naked for money.
So why can't I do this thing?
Because I have to deal with you doing this.
