Intimacy and having sex when you're a sex worker is fucking great.
And I mean personal sex here because your job is to navigate intimacy.
So you learn how to attune to others' needs.
You learn how to communicate effectively.
You learn really quickly how to value your own boundaries and other people's boundaries.
And Loki, you become pretty sexually confident.
So for me, it's made the process of navigating intimacy a lot easier and a lot more fun.
And I did not have these skills.
Hi, so I'm Stephanie Sakia and I wrote A Private Man, which is inspired by the true story of my grandparents.
My grandfather was a Catholic priest and my grandmother seduced him away from the priesthood.
Well I really resonate with every everything you're saying is resonating with me Jiyoung.
I think that it's interesting that all three of us our work is so drawn from real events
And I think, you know, there's such a stereotype about, you know, people asking female writers about the truth behind what they've written because there's this stereotype about like women not being able to make things up, which is sort of a moot point with me because so far my writing has been drawn from life and it's like, I don't know, my family history is like pretty damn interesting.
So like, I don't really see why I should need to embellish on it too much.
And I think I had a real sense of urgency about what this novel would be achieving, i.e.
to dispel shame around a family secret.
I think that dismantling shame is a really great impetus for a writer to have.
And also my Nana died after we had in fact sold the novel.
She died the night that we sent the novel to editors, which was a bit spooky.
