So it's like incredibly standardized.
And then you have to go and tell this man in your village all your secrets at the confessional.
And I think it's that aspect of the institution of religion that she really, really objects to.
And she really advocates for, you know, she was a deeply religious
religious person that wanted a religion and a faith that was predicated on one's own conscience.
Whereas the Catholic Church, certainly then and to some degree still now, you know, still has quite a medieval concept of like,
the person and how much influence you can really exert over your own life.
That is so interesting that Dylan used that precise wording, because I do actually think about
my writing needs to weigh the right amount and each word needs to be pulling its own weight.
And anyway, so it's funny that he's landed on that and lovely moment of serendipity.
I think we live in an intention economy.
So your writing has got to be,
advocating for its own worth at all times.
So, and a novel has a lot of words in it and I did want every word to be, every sentence to be doing something interesting.
So that was very important to me.
I was very aware of quite how much competition you're going up against as a writer of books, you know, let alone all the other books that they could pick up.
And
I don't edit my work that much after it's on the page, but I do a lot of drafting without any writing implements to hand.
