We didn't work together.
She worked in one office, I worked in another.
And we sort of bonded over Gothic melodrama, really, more than horror, really.

Absolutely.
And really, a lot of people who worked on those Gainsborough pictures, when Gainsborough closed down, they went to Hammer, which is why those films looked quite similar.
Gainsborough, I assume, had more money than Hammer, but they obviously had a feeling for those sort of ornate Victorian interiors.
The Brides of Dracula was Hammer's sequel to their 1958 Dracula, the one that starred Christopher Lee, who wasn't that well known at the time.
Really, Peter Cushing was their star character.
But they had a slight problem.
It was an enormous success.
It made an awful lot of money.
The film before that was The Curse of Frankenstein, which was Hammer's first gothic horror.
And there were rumours, or actually there was a story that that film made so much money, it...
It meant that Warner Brothers did not go bankrupt.
