Well, they had to have him.
He was Van Helsing in the first film.
And of course, he was their star.
So they wanted him back.
The script was rewritten about four times, partly because Peter Cushing refused to say the lines.
It was that bad.

Carry On Screaming, though, was the 12th in the series and the last to be made by Anglo Amalgamated, who initiated them.
For some bizarre reason, Anglo got the art film bug and decided they didn't want to make any more fat-headed farces.
So Peter Rogers, who produced them, went across the road at Pinewood Studios and asked if Rank would be interested in making them.
They were, of course, very keen to pick them up.
And all the others were played by...

Screaming was, it's often said that it's a hammer spoof.
It doesn't seem to me to be a hammer spoof.
There are elements of hammer in it, but it seemed to me to owe more to the Munsters and the Addams family, which was prevalent on TV at the time.
It seems to have more of that than hammer.
