Yeah, so this was, I think I have to give credit.

It was largely Zach's idea and largely he did most of the interviews.

Zach Meisel covers the Guardians for us.

A fantastic writer.

And even if you don't have any interest in the Guardians, he's just so good at sort of bringing a team to life.

And it's a team that happens to just like always make themselves interesting by playing a different brand of baseball, by having...

But anyway, that's my plug for Zach.

The story came about this spring when I think it was after the Rays had

pulled off their third three team trade of the off season.

And he was like, how do these actually happen?

Like, can we get a bunch of GMs to explain how do you get together?

Is it an idea that someone has that you just immediately get three people in a text thread and try to pull it off?

Is it a two team trade that's, you know, sort of sprawls into something different.

Um, so he started those conversations, um,

in spring training when it's much easier to get executives and then we sort of over the last couple months just picked up more uh more and more and it's one of those fun stories to do because as you can imagine in our line of work there are a lot of times you're bringing questions to people that they don't really want to talk about they might you know they may be wanting to give a little bit insight but uh but not too much but this is a this is the one that's like silly enough that they're like oh yeah it is kind of weird uh when you have to get three teams uh in the

the room or on the call and figure out how to do it.

And so that was our question.

We truly just brought a lot of curiosity to the table was how do they, what are the conditions that make it right for a three-team trade?

Why do the same three-team trades or three teams often, or the same teams often get involved in three-team trades like the Rays, who have been in five of the last six three-team trades in the majors.
