Um you know I

Uh my first book was The Legend of Bagger Vance, which is kind of a mystical golf story, right?

And when I was done with that, it was very clear that uh um I had been a screenwriter before that, um, that I wasn't gonna be able to go back to that.

So I thought, well, what am I gonna how what do I do next?

I had no idea at all.

I mean, how do you follow up a golf story, right?

I don't know what.

And I was reading

Herodotus, the histories about the Greeks versus the Persians back in the day.

And I just stumbled on a a passage in there about the Battle of Thermopylae, and I just thought

You know, it's it's sort of a mystery where it's like where ideas come from or what grabs you.

But I ch I just was grabbed by this one particular moment and I thought, Okay, that's that'll be my next book, you know.

Let me see if I can write something ab about that.

So that's well again, I don't know how why, just it just grabbed me.

Well, I don't know about that, but uh that was how Gates of Fire started anyway.

Um I did do a lot of research but

I must say that the Spartans Spartan society, if you if you try to look it look it up.

They're actually

They were so secretive, but

y a researcher like me has to really go to very odd kind of places and and piece it together by kind of reading between the lines.
