Spend 30 seconds, get a post-it note, write three things down that you're going to say and see how that feels.
Yeah.
because you've spent that 30 seconds reflecting on and planning you will feel much better likewise at a meeting or a difficult conversation you can frame it beforehand by either asking for an agenda getting an agenda and checking where you can make contributions
If necessary, talk to other people so you've got that information there.
But if it's a less formal meeting, dropping an email or a WhatsApp message saying, looking forward to speaking to you.
Can we talk about this?
Then you've set in the sand what you're going to speak about.
The other person might think, oh, could I have more information there so I can prepare?
So you've reflected beforehand.
You're not just walking in and saying,
with no preparation at all and there's something that I a little hack that I share with people I need to remember it now and it's a sort of five minute hack perhaps you you know pre-pandemic it would have been more relevant you've arrived in your car you've got five minutes so what's the purpose of the meeting who are you meeting what outcomes you want what evidence you've got
and there was one more but that that's enough it isn't it yeah um just going through those and reminding yourself what's the purpose of the meeting what outcomes you want what challenges there might be what evidence you've got to back up your message yeah that was it your key message yeah yeah
That's a really good idea.
But also speaking to other people, you might want to prepare them first.
So if you're doing monthly report and that you do it monthly, maybe contact those senior leaders.
Is there anything that you'd particularly like me to highlight?
And you're already getting those people on side.
side note or a last topic you mentioned owning the stage and owning the space how can we individually do this really being aware of how you present yourself by sitting or standing so if i were like this
You can't see all of my body, but you can see that I'm disengaged, that possibly I've got lacking confidence, maybe not wanting to be there.
And if you look around the room in a meeting, whether it's face to face or online, other people will pick up on that.
