And so I got pushed into the sort of opera route.
So opera and classical concerts.
And, you know, went to music college and I was a jobbing singer.
Looking back, at the time you never realise it, but some great things that I had the opportunity to be involved in.
And I retired when my son was two.
It was very difficult combining that with singing, but really lucky to have those opportunities.
Absolutely.
I call it the maestro effect, obviously, because of the situation that I tell the story about.
But we all have that ability.
We all have the ability to have blind spots in ourselves.
or that culturally we've been told, like I was, don't show off, don't put yourself forward, don't ask, all of those things.
So that was my blind spot, not being able to recognise that I had a talent.
And, you know, when I went to music college, there were people that, from when they were young, had been told how wonderful they were.
So they had all of those...
You know, on paper, it didn't look like a good bet, I would say.
However, we both know that if you have a very clear vision, if you have a very clear target, all of those doubts can be overridden.
Definitely.
Personally, I think that there is an element of, um, the way that we're brought up and values, particularly for women that you mustn't show off.
Um,
problem is that if someone gives you a compliment and you say oh that old thing oh it was nothing it it almost says i i'm you know i'm not taking any notice of you even though you've said something really complimentary or generous and we do need to take that step back take a deep breath and say thank you and don't say anything else yeah
