Most firms are still asking about experienced client services officers, but how can I get directly into the PY?
Firstly, I would just say kudos to you.
Making the career change is always very daunting.
But the financial advice industry generally, we need you.
So good efforts with making the change or thinking about it.
I would say firstly as well that
A lot of financial advice firms, when they're advertising for something like a client services officer role, what they're really screening for in that job description is that they want someone who can understand how to operate in the very regulated advice environment that we work.
They want to know that that person understands the fundamental processes that take place day to day in an advice business and that they can be relied on under the compliance pressure that we have.
And the most important thing I think that most firms are looking for when they are hiring newer entrants to the space is that they want someone who can support the advisor without taking away too much of their time.
for the training side of things.
Because realistically, the demand for advice versus the number of advisors is way out of balance.
So majority of advisors are like at capacity.
So they do want ideally someone to come in who's got a little bit of experience in the space before committing to a professional year.
And I think that's really important because
having someone go straight into the PY, it is a big step from that point of view of the commitment of your resources into that person.
So you at least want to see, and it might not be a huge amount of time too, right?
Like it might just be,
two, three or six months of just having some runs on the board in the advice industry before taking the step into your PY.
And I wouldn't say to be deflated by that as well, particularly if you're coming in with experience in other industries and that experience is going to be really valuable in the advice space because there's so many skill sets that are super, super important in this space that you can be obtaining elsewhere, obviously.
And expensive.
