They say they want to capture all manner of experience and education levels.
But at the same time, I think some people in the HR and recruitment world say, look, some of this is laziness.
It's easy to put a very wide range and then you don't really have to think about it.
We've certainly seen some companies that use the exact same range for very different jobs.
And then the other part of it, of course, is that companies don't really know how this is going to play out, right?
They don't really know if their competitors are going to offer higher upper range, in which case maybe they'll attract more candidates and people won't bother applying.
So I think there's a lot of uncertainty and a lot of variation, and that may shift and kind of settle out over time.
Well, the dollar ranges tend to be much higher when you're talking about the highest paid people.
Of course, we are talking about New York City.
So these pay ranges are just going to be higher from top to bottom of the sort of professional ladder, whether you're talking about when you're comparing New York to the middle of the country or non-coastal areas.
However, even for lower-paid jobs in the New York area, I mean, PwC had a manager position that was $91,000 to $207,000.
I mean, that's a factor of two.
You also saw some others.
New York Post had an online reporting position, a sports reporter.
That one was $15 an hour at the lower end, which is about $31,000 a year full-time.
all the way up to $125,000 a year.
And that works out to, you know, a factor of something like four.
Not in great detail.
So there are definitely sort of disclaimers or notes in these job ads that say, and by the way, this doesn't include incentives, this doesn't include commissions, this doesn't include benefits.
It doesn't include equity.
