If Chinese manufacturing production is redirected then that redirection uh will be finding alternative markets, uh probably at a uh lower price um to achieve that re redirection and obviously uh Australia would be a prime beneficiary there. matched

Um but if you're in a country that is retaliating to tired tariffs, that you are lifting up tariffs and then it obviously increases your domestic costs there. matched

Um the other factor to keep in mind is capital. matched

capital uh capital imports. matched

Um with tariff flows especially on capital goods um going to to and fro between different countries um and getting different tariff rates, it could be the cost of capital goods increases um quite quite materially, whereas the cost of consumer goods uh perhaps doesn't increase as as materially. matched

There's a really interesting uh policy statement there, and at least when you look at market reaction, you'd have to say uh although the Ubyan Z did cut, it was uh more hookish than what many people had expected. matched

And you look at the two year swap rate, it rose by as much as fourteen basis points. matched

It closed up just under eleven basis points for the day at three point two seven percent. matched

And uh just on that note, it's worth noting that the vote to cut was not unanimous. matched

One NPC member did vote to keep policy unchanged and they also did matched

Did seem to be a bit more sympathy with that view as well, as some members uh also noted that leaving policy on hold will allow the committee to better assess the impact of increased economic policy uncertainty and guard against the risk of higher than expected inflation. matched

So uh in the po in a post meeting. matched

So if that was matched

Uh well I think I I think most people were expecting at least a a uh coup uh cover more cuts. matched

But the um more interesting bit is uh with Governor Hawkesbury um he uh didn't really have a policy bias. matched

And I think that's really, really interesting uh in this environment. matched

Uh and so they're really looking to maintain full option optionality on the policy outlook. matched

Uh when when you look at market pricing at the moment, uh another twenty-five basis point rate cut is fully priced with a small chance. matched

chance of an additional cut with terminal close to two point nine five percent. matched

But overall, um the statement was probably a little bit more hawkish than what m markets were probably thinking. matched
