And in Italy, it's threatening Parmesan cheese.

Extreme heat is impacting quality and quantity of the cheese, which generates an estimated €4.5 billion in revenue each year.

Cows struggle in high temperatures, producing less milk, one of Parmesan's only three ingredients, alongside salt and rennet.

Correspondent Sara Rossi visited a farm on the outskirts of Parma to give us some insight into the impact.

Cooling measures are being used in the barns for the cows and also in the warehouses where cheese wheels are kept and aged for at least 12 months.

But dairy farmer Nicola Bertinelli says prolonged periods of extreme summer heat will have a significant impact on the amount of cheese that can be produced.

Meaning higher prices for consumers.
