All he knew is he wanted to meet people.
He wanted to connect with people.
Working a summer, he told me that the money is great, but what's more important for him is making friends.
This is a way for teens to be able to get to know each other, to be able to spend those nights closing with one another by the poolside or scooping up those final scoops of ice cream, being able to recap on each other's lives, each other's days.
It's a third place for them.
It's a place where they can just be kids.
So I asked him, how are the workers now versus pre-COVID?
Because he's been in this business for over 20 years.
He says what he's seeing is these teens love connecting with one another.
They love talking.
They love socializing.
And while being able to do that, they're more interactive within the workspace and they're doing a better job working as well.

They're creating this kind of flow that transcends the work environment, and they're bringing that back to the work environment, and they're becoming more productive workers.
So it's why he continues to hire teens, why he finds them a great source for work, and also because he says it keeps him young.
How competitive a labor market is it for teen workers?
There's a lot of teens working, but at the same time, there's a lot of demand for service jobs, specifically jobs that are worked by teens.
We're talking ice cream shops.
We're talking hotel lobbies.
We're talking restaurants.
