But I do think that you can feel maternal about something else that you've made besides a human being.

Yeah, I wonder if even in this late stage in her life when she was relaying these stories to her grandson or step-grandson, whether she was self-editing and still felt like she had to throw in that, oh, we would have liked it because almost she was internalizing that misogyny and maybe that real pressure that she had been receiving from other people to have kids.
Right.
And again, this is a couple who didn't know that just drinking fats of cream and Cabernet Sauvignon was making their tummy ache.
So maybe not the most medically savvy in pair.

The first time I read this book, that paragraph is what made me be like, this book is like a guide.
This is a life guide.
Because I think that is a metaphor for anything that you're making.
Certainly in comedy.
We've all seen it when the comedian comes out and they may have a perfectly good joke, but they've got to couch it or hedge their bets ahead of time.
Like, I just wrote this.
Or you guys are a tough crowd.
Or I didn't need that other tag.
And it's like, I love what she says about, no, you've got to just put your work out there.
It is what it is.
It might be a hot turd, but you don't apologize for it.
You just sit with what you did, learn from it, and get your ass back in the kitchen.
