And John Howard went on the John Laws show,

And he said, I think we might be letting in too many Asians to the country.

This was about 1987.

He didn't say it directly.

He just sort of played with it, right?

And there was such outrage in the media and his party room.

They said, racist, racist, racist, racist.

John Howard's a racist.

That the party rolled him about three weeks later.

And they put a guy called Andrew Peacock in as leader.

Anyway.

So he lost his job for apparently being a racist.

Then what happens is six years later when he becomes the opposition leader again, and it really felt when he became the opposition leader that he would be the next prime minister because Keating was really unpopular at both stages.

But then John Howard had this racist sort of legacy that he had to deal with.

So what he did is he gave an interview to Greg Sheridan at The Australian and he said, I was 100% wrong about what I said about immigration at John Laws.

And it was just like this whole article.
