Like, is this guy just going to come in and clean house?
Is he going to come in and like tell us this is how it's done?
And so I kind of like,
overdid it on the collaborative side, making sure every voice was heard, everyone was listened to.
I do believe empathy is a really powerful tool in leadership, both in the front office and making sure people know that you know where they're coming from, what their hopes and dreams are, what their aspirations are, take the time to get to know them, what they're trying to accomplish, how to put them in a position to do well, and with players too.
Another lesson learned
along the way from players is, we had Gary DeSarcina, who we were like, we brought in with the Red Sox when he was done playing.
And we, I remember one day he was in the office and we were like, oh, let's go look at your old scouting reports of you as a player.
And he kept looking through the scouting reports and be like, God, they never told me this.
He's like, you know, I had trouble going to play, bad two strike approach, whatever.
And he's like, man, if they would have told me this, I would have gotten in the big leagues so much quicker.
So then we're like, well, there shouldn't be any secrets.
Like, why should we be writing evaluations of players?
That's where the individual player development plans in the minor leagues.
Oh, yeah.
That's where that came from is, OK, we're going to.
it's our responsibility to write up for every player in the organization, what are your strengths, what are your weaknesses, and what's the plan to turn your weaknesses into strengths, like physically, mentally, and fundamentally.
So there's no secrets.
And then the player starts, you know, first of all, you develop trust because you're working together to develop the player.
And then he starts to take charge of his own development, starts running those meetings and
