And like I think one of the really important learnings that I've had is, you know, there's been certain bond investments, particularly in I can think of several in the European high yield universe where had a really differentiated view.
I saw resilience where others saw weakness and I saw a management team who were able to.
build something spectacular and the market was completely unaware and there was, you know, huge value to be accrued there for portfolios.
But there's also ones where I found that, you know, the market was already with me and ultimately I, you know,
was just iterating a thesis which was already priced in.
And so, you know, the important thing about investing is making sure that for every decision you make, every active decision you make, you are returning value per unit of risk.
And so that's the goal of an investor is to outperform.
And in outperformance, there will always be moments of underperformance.
So it's just making sure that you
you're right more times than you're wrong and you're right for the right reasons rather than just kind of blind kind of risk-taking.
Like, were you right because you had the correct call or were you right because the market just rallied behind you?
And so investing is a cruel beast, but it's also a wonderful, wonderful way to grow up.
This is why I always say to people, I grew up on the investment floor because I genuinely feel like I came in to Bailey Gifford as a,
you know, as one type of Theo and I've come out a very, you know, slightly battered and bruised in some respects from the market telling me when I was wrong.
I'm much more healthy, well-rounded Theo than I could have ever been on any other job.
It's, you know, it's the Warren Buffett, you know, when the tide goes out, you know, you can see, get the phrase, when the tide goes out, you see who can swim or whatever.
I can't remember the exact phrasing, but, you know, when the market rallies or you're, you know, in an AI or crypto theme, like we've all lived through crypto market cycles where everything's going up and you just feel like the smartest person on earth.
And then you realize, no, you were just, you just were max long beta.
Like you were just very leveraged in one direction.
And actually you weren't the smartest person in the room.
