I don't think we can do it as well as early childhood can at all unless you had a few people in the room.

What I would say is I feel at Willow Park we do the best job we can and that is that we have...

Items that are familiar to children that they've had in early childhood, paint and Play-Doh, Mobilo, blocks, Lego, those things.

So they walk into the room and they go, oh, I know this stuff.

OK, I can do this, you know.

So we have those things available to children throughout the day.

They do have, what we've kind of developed over the years, is we do have periods of structured learning time.

We absolutely do explicit instruction.

We are a big structured literacy school.

So we will absolutely have times where we'll have a mat time, we will have 10 or 15 minutes where it's a reading group.

But then once they've done their reading group, they can go back to their play.

And what children learn...

Quickly, I think, is that we'll say, you know, hey, come up here.

It's reading time.

And when you've finished, you can go back to your play.

And we're not going to pack up that play.

We're not going to take it away.

And they learn that, OK, once I've done this, I can go back to that, what I was doing.
