They know, they are so true to who they are at five and kind of their spirit of, you know, do you want to, no.

But what you do see is

teachers who make it entertaining and engaging and give lots of encouragement and praise when they attempt things you know i am doing spelling with at the moment i've got 13 year zeros and so they have just started school some of them and we're just writing letter sounds and it's a short lesson and it's fun and they think it's great and they do all do it and to be honest probably

Eight years ago, I maybe wouldn't have thought they would have.

So again, I think it's having that high expectation and also that invitation.

Like it's, let's give this a go.

If they say no, I've also got a child who is playing with blocks in Lego, but he is listening.

We want children to have come to school with lots of experiences.

The more things that they know about, that they've seen, that they've read, that they've been spoken to about, it fills their brain with knowledge.

And then when they bring that into reading, that's what they draw on for the comprehension.

If they haven't been exposed, if they haven't been to the zoo and you're reading a book about the zoo, they have nothing to pull on.

Yeah.

Language, you know, if you think oral language is the foundation for all of your learning and you will, and every new entrant teacher at the moment is, you know, noticing that children are coming in with less oral language, maybe not talking in complete sentences, not understanding about talking and listening, the serve and return.

That is just so important.

I honestly think if your child is lucky enough to get two or three terms of year zero, I think you've won the lottery.

I think those foundation years, just having, you know, if you get seven terms and zero one, that is amazing for your child.

I think it's a confusing system for parents, especially if you have come from a different schooling system somewhere else in the world.

It just really doesn't make sense.

But I think that we, you know, schools, and our school does, and I'm sure other primary schools do as well, is you work from where children are at.

So wherever they come in is where you work from.
