That's very important.
Things feel easier when we do them with friends.
You know, if you've got to climb a hill, it's much easier to do it with someone else with the conversation and camaraderie and so on.
And, you know, if we've got a secure friendship group, then we've got a secure social network to turn to when things get difficult.
I think there is something that is more intangible, but very, very vital, which is to do with the feeling that you belong to something bigger than yourself and the feeling that someone cares about you, you know?
Well, I think it's really important to think of friendships as something that we do rather than something that we have.
You know, I think we're inclined, especially... Oh, that's good.
I mean, one of the barriers to keeping up friendships or making new friends is that, you know, we are living very busy lives, particularly if you've got young children or you're caring for people, particularly if it's hard for you to get out of the house and get around.
You know, also we live in this kind of very always on hustle culture.
People are very, very busy with their work and optimizing everything.
I think the wedding is a good example of optimizing everything.
I think we can lower the bar for what it is to do a friendship, to keep up a friendship.
It's possible for us to drop a quick text or a message to someone and say, you know, you just popped into my mind.
I was wondering how you are.
Or I saw this thing and it reminded me of something you said to me three years ago.
I wondered, you know, how that had gone.
I think it's fine to find these little ways of keeping in touch with someone without having to be like, we're definitely going to meet up for dinner, even though we live on opposite sides of the country and we've both got young children.
I think that there's a few things that we can do that really help friendships tick along.
I think it's really important to pay attention to reciprocity if you want to keep a friend.
That, I would say, is absolutely universal.
