Biennemi is the 27-year-old son of former Washington Commanders Coach Eric Biennemi and is accused of shooting Mia Biennemi several times on Sunday night at the family's home.
The motion asking for the evaluation was filed by the Loudoun County, Virginia Public Defender's Office, which argues that Biennemi has significant mental health issues and cannot assist in his own defense.
Investigators have not revealed a motive in the incident.
Mia Bien-Ami remains hospitalized but is out of the intensive care unit.

Dennis Coyle is back on American soil for the first time since being taken from his home in Kabul in January 2025.
Friends and family gathered in San Antonio, Texas to greet his plane.
Coyle, who is 64, was not charged with a crime, according to his family.
Afghanistan's leader ordered his release after they wrote to him asking for a pardon.
Coyle's sister Molly Long thanked the Trump administration for its role in getting her brother home.
