But like the English and the Spanish and the French, they were coming over and they were just killing people and they were bringing disease like Nassau, actually, which was a very big pirate hub.

When Spain first arrived there, they just either enslaved or killed the entire indigenous population of New Providence Island.
They brought disease, and then the people that didn't die of disease, they sold as slaves and used to farm plantations and sugar cane and things.
So all of the colonizers were really terrible people.
And not to say that pirates didn't also get up to their fair share of terrible things.

I love pirates, but I also feel like every time I talk about it, I preface, like, there were a lot of pirates that did very bad things.

I mean, like, Sir Francis Drake is one of the most famous, like, explorers and privateers of all time.
He was operating heavily, like, during the buccaneering era.
And he was just a slaver.
Like, he just bought and sold slaves as well.
And so, like, a lot of these people that are renowned, I mean, he was the second guy to circumnavigate the world.
And, like, he's this very renowned explorer, but he's just... But also...

And that was really only if you had like a letter of mark, then you're a privateer.
