And your words might be the first evidence that they receive that their inner critic is lying.
Let's decide as a community here that this is the type of person that we are.
We are generous with our words and we are sincere in our encouragement.
And even if it feels awkward or cringe, we will speak up and let the person know because it is so, it is life giving to hear these words, to hear truth.
There's a verse in the Bible that says, good news is like refreshes the spirit more than water in the desert.
So let's first and foremost be people who do this in others.
When you become that kind of person, it will boomerang back to you.
So the first tool is to borrow someone else's lens.
Ask yourself, if your best friend were introducing you to someone, what would they say about you?
They wouldn't be like, oh, this is Trish.
She's done an Ironman.
They wouldn't tell your accomplishments.
They would talk about your character.
Oh, she's hilarious.
He's incredibly loyal.
She makes everyone feel welcome.
