Will this mean that an officer may not stop this person or talk to them?
Of course not.
We want to make sure that the youth is safe.
However, we will not be taking that youth into custody or such or doing a juvenile arrest.
Additionally, exceptions exist if there's an emergency, also to if that youth is traveling to and from work.
One of the things that we really I have gotten conversations about or I've gotten questions about is concerning a seventeen year old who was in college.
I want to reiterate again, we understand that individuals like that are
in school.
They're doing the right thing.
We are not going to have a curfew police.
We're not gonna have our officers patrolling the streets of Charlotte looking for individuals and trying to determine their ages so that we can do a juvenile arrest or that we can take them into custody.
That is not the intent.
of this again we are trying to have a tool that when we have teen takeovers, we have these mass gatherings, we're able to address them effectively and in a way that prevents harm to our youth.
One other question I wanted to make sure that we were addressing or and to update you is concerning some of the studies related to curfew.
In the document that you should have received, we outlined some studies in there.
We found where there were three studies in support of positive impacts for curfews.
There were four that were mixed impacts.
And certainly I know that people have found studies that suggest that curfews are not effective.
What I would say is that many of the studies that have been used or we have looked at are not current studies.
They they do not address the issue of teen takeovers, which we have seen.
