It's a phenomenon that's new, that we have seen probably in the last year, year and a half, um, mainly this year that we have seen in Charlotte.
So because of that, I will suggest that we look very closely to our data, that we would move forward with this so that we can gain data, we can work with some of our local universities to be able to capture the proper data for our community, and then we can know whether or not this is something that is effective, that is meaningful for our community.
One other area that we wanted to address, and one of the main reasons for the modification that we're looking at is because we want to reduce or prevent the victimization of our youth.
I believe it was Dr.
Wattlington in the last meeting asked us if we could break out the youth victimization numbers to show the different time frames.
And so we were able to do that so that you can see that.
Particularly at nighttime, outdoor juvenile victimization is still driven primarily by firearm and aggravated assaults.
When we look at the charts, you can see in the different time frames.
So from nine PM to five fifty-nine a.m.
we saw an overall four hundred and thirty-one victims.
of crime in our community.
This is youth that are outside or in those open spaces.
If you look at that also too, we see that the ages 16 and 17, that's roughly 30 percent.
And the majority were adw or assault with gun cases or victims.
Um also too, looking at the demographics, ninety one percent were youth of color.
We broke it out between ten and five.
five fifty nine PM or six AM and you can look at the numbers there.
They go down slightly but we still see victimization happening throughout those hours and throughout the early mornings.
The percentage of our brown and black youth that are victimized is still in in the nineties, um, which is concerning to all of us.
Having raised two African American males in my household, that was always a concern that they would be a victim of crime or that they would be out doing something innocently and end up hurt.
