So it is a concern not only for me, but I know it is for many parents and
those in our community.
One other area and update I want to provide is speaking to community members, the question arose repeatedly concerning juvenile arrests.
What does it mean if we enforce this ordinance?
What does it mean for our youth particularly?
Does it mean that they are going to be arrested, they're gonna be placed in handcuffs, do they go through the criminal justice system?
There's a lot of conversation even tonight that we're criminalizing our young people.
We want to be very clear that that is not what happens um necessarily.
And I'm gonna ask attorney um Jessica Battle if she'll come forward to talk a little bit more.
But I do want to emphasize the point that with a juvenile arrest, most of the times those youth are returned to their families.
We call their parents, their guardians, they come and they take possession of that youth.
At no time are they going through
the uh sheriff department or going to the jail or anything like that.
And there's instances in which there are criminal activity that occurs that necessitate necessitates them being in the criminal justice system.
But the majority of these juvenile cases of curfew are not what we're finding.
So we're I'm gonna ask Jessica if she'll come forward to talk just a little bit more about the process so that we can understand that a little bit better.

Good evening, Jessica Battle with the city attorney's office.
As she stated, if there's probable cause to charge a juvenile with a violation of a curfew or any particular charge, officers would have to make an on scene decision about whether or not they were going to charge that juvenile.
They look at many different factors, including the severity of the crime.
