Uh Mayor, I was wondering if I could just say one thing um to the Councilmember.
I agree wholeheartedly with you that we should not be making these decisions alone, that we include our youth.
I will share with you that earlier this year in March after the incidents in Burkdale.
Our members of our team, our community services bureau, met with teens under the Safe Summer Charlotte initiative, where we heard from youth what they wanted to get some ideas from them.
They had about 15 meetings, the last one being in May.
So we are trying to seek the voices of the young people.
I was very impressed with the young lady who spoke tonight.
I I believe that that is a critical component.
We do need to hear from our young people.
So that would be part of what we would do with this um ordinance as well.
Thank you.
Thank you, Councilmember Mayfield.
Council Member Masuera Aries.
I think as we educate people more as we talk about it, we will see that number go down um to below what it is now.
Twenty-nine percent it's still, I feel, significant, because if it's my child and they're part of that twenty-nine percent, I would not want them victimized.
So our desire, our hope is the more we educate, the more we're out, the more our officers are talking to people about this curfew, that that number would go down, victimization would be reduced.
Success for us looks in two ways.
One, a reduction in victimization, less juveniles being victimized, and yes, less crime, period.
Um, that our juveniles are creating or anybody across the city.
I think I've spoken repeatedly that we want to make Charlotte one of the safest large cities.
