So where we are at the moment is Alkaria 1 additional unit, a geothermal power plant.
This power plant has a capacity of 226 megawatts.
So the process of electricity generation, it is a fairly a bit long process.
At the very beginning, the process of electricity generation first of all involves
carrying out detailed geoscientific exploration involving the techniques of geology, geophysics, and geochemistry.
The teams go to the field, undertake the studies, collect data, analyze the data, then come together through what we call an integration approach, bring the data together,
And of course look for points of convergence which form the basis for siting geothermal wells.
So once the well has been sited, then the drilling phase follows where the geothermal well is drilled to the required depth.
And for our case here at Atolokaria, we drill our production wells to a depth of 3,000 meters, or three kilometers for that matter.
That's quite deep.
Yes, and once, of course, the well has been successfully drilled, it's allowed for maybe between one and two months to recover.
Because during drilling operation, we pump a lot of the water into the formation.
And this, of course, alters the natural
thermal condition around the well so we give it time to recover after that the well is tested by allowed to blow out the steam and from this the reservoir team is able to quantify like how much megawatts or how much steam capacity equivalent to megawatts the well is able to produce
We direct the steam to a geothermal turbine.
The turbine has blades so when it is hit by steam, it rotates at very high speed.
The turbines here rotate at about 3,000 revolutions per minute.
The turbine is coupled to a generator.
So when the turbine rotates, of course, that converts this kinetic energy now into electrical energy.
And from the generator, then we have our electricity now into the grid.
