Appearances
especially when your brain is still forming how it's going to respond and react and all of those things, especially if it's something you had no control over, you come out carrying stuff.
So you can carry fear and anxiety since that you're not safe.
A belief that
down, really deep down, it feels like something is wrong with you or something will always go wrong.
And we don't usually deal with that pain head on because we don't know how.
So we reach for whatever's going to numb it, whatever quiets it, whatever makes us feel okay for that little bit of moment.
That can be alcohol, that can be drugs, that can be, you know, sexual stuff, that can be porn, that can be so many things.
And it's different for all of us.
And that reaching is really where that spiral starts because things we grab onto to cope with things often become what we're going to regret next.
And that regret feeds that shame.
And that feeds into all of that nasty and grossness that we feel.
It makes us feel worse.
So we reach again and again and again.
And all of a sudden, we're in a spiral.
One bad choice leaning on the last one, okay?
And I want to say this.
If that's been your story, you're not a bad person who did bad things for no reason.
You're a hurt person who is trying to survive a pain that you didn't know how to carry.
And someone was there to help you carry it, but you didn't quite know that yet, okay?
That doesn't make your choices right, but it does mean that the whole story does matter, not just the parts that you're ashamed of.
