But as electronics payments grow, there is a cascading effect and there could be some positive impact to instant payments as well.
But now imagine if instead of a move to electronic payments, the order was to move it to instant payments, right?
It could very well have happened.
It's still a shift.
It's still a good thing, et cetera.
Or similarly, the federal government could come and say, hey, let's have...
on the instant payment rate.
So get money in the hands of consumers faster.
Now, these are not big numbers, right?
I mean, the number of paper checks in the federal case was about 36 million or so.
Tax refunds is about 94 million or so.
And the billions of payments of transactions, this is not really a big number.
But I think what this would create
is a whole new level of visibility, right?
Imagine if one-third of the consumers in the US now receive payments through real-time payment rails, and they say, oh, what is this thing called real-time payments?
I didn't hear of this before.
And now that in turn spurs visibility and demand for new use cases, right?
So little things that government can do, even though the motivations are different, the actions may be different, but I'm 100% certain the government can play a very relevant role in advancing adoption of the instant payment rails.
So that's one lesson.
Number two, I would say, is the role of fintechs.
