Fintechs have a super important place in this space.
If you think about it, banks simply don't have the same level of motivation.
It's a cost of doing business for them at the end of the day.
And in the US, it's actually potentially taking away revenue sources, whether it's interchange or wire fees or whatever it is.
FinTechs on the other hand have different motivations.
They can really drive consumer demand.
They can take more risks.
They can drive some more interest, et cetera.
And Zelle is a great example of that, right?
Zelle is a FinTech.
And if it weren't for Zelle in the US, you know, we kind of include them in the US instant payment volumes, the US instant payment traffic would be 90% lower, right?
And we've seen this play out in various markets, right?
So India, for example, is the largest in terms of payment transaction volumes.
95% of real-time payment transactions in India are initiated from a FinTech app, right?
Like PhonePay, Google Pay, et cetera, et cetera.
In Brazil as well, which is the second largest market, fintechs have played a very important part in the popularity of PIX, their local network.
PIX is integrated in all the payment wallets, and that makes the countries go to payment method.
The real-time payment networks really need to make it easier for fintechs to be part of this ecosystem.
Right now, if you look at it, the whole system is skewed very heavily towards banks.
And widening this net of fintech participants, I believe, will go a long way in making instant payments more mainstream.
