I'm sorry, it was too much equality, too much freedom, and these values were considered as consumer goods, not as energies that you need to support, uh, not as events that you need always to feed, but as things that you consume, like in a supermarket, like in a shop.
A phone and it is always with you.
You inherited freedom and it will be always with you.
And this was the the major problem.
And Montesquieu is saying that look, there is a problem when equality becomes excessive.
When people lose this idea about which I was talking at the beginning, that we can be equal, but then we need to decide who will rule.
Maybe we will decide that this person will rule by vote.
We will vote for him or her.
Maybe we will decide that this will be some of the some kind of lottery or something.

Understanding brings democracy to a crisis or brings republic to a crisis when equality becomes excessive, as Montesquieu writes.
And by the way, freedom too.
He also mentions one uh in one of the sentences, he thinks that freedom can also be excessive.
And it's very interesting if we think about the crisis of contemporary democracies when people think about their rights, but very rarely.
Think about their obligations.
Ukraine is a country right now where you have you have a big controversy over this because some of the people who don't want to go to the army think that their rights are being violated, etc.
But a lot of people who are in the army, I think the majority of people who are in the army think in terms of obligations.
They are in the army because it's their obligation, it's their duty.
