So it starts with having that diligence of where is it that you want to go?
to be able to come in today and say, okay, this is how I want to fund it with debt versus equity.
And I took a few advisory clients and I always start, I'm like, I like to start with the end in mind.
How do you want to exit your business?
Do you want to do it to your IPO?
Do you want to give it to your kids if you have somebody to give it to?
Do you want to be acquired by someone bigger?
Like, what is the end of it?
Because that will really dictate how you manage your capital.
If you're planning on going to IPO and taking too many investors now, you'll be heavily diluted by the time you make it to the stock exchange.
You won't have any stake in your company.
At that point, we're talking like barely anything.
So for me, really start to understanding what end do you have in mind for your business?
How do you plan to exit the business?
Do you plan to retire 50 years from now?
Like it has to start with the end in mind when it comes to capital allocation.
Because if you're doing it for, when you think private equity, for example, in private equity, they're in for short turnarounds, two, three years.
They'll pull all the debt they can because they want to make a profit within three, five years.
What is your plan?
If you're not going to grow that fast, then what is the right level of growth?
