Yeah, it's a good question, actually.

So historically, the pension services in Scotland, for example, were always really accurate, but slow.

Whereas now...

we do have people who have statements and their numbers look wrong and England and Wales have always kind of had that problem and so that's not any different so my advice there for GPs is always always at least once in your career ask for a service extract so a service extract it's not on your statements but a service extract will give you your full pension history right from the year that you joined and it will tell you what your pensionable earnings were for every single year

in the NHS pension scheme and how much pension that year has driven.

And it will also critically give you that initial officer service so that you know what that different pot is worth and what part of your pension that is driving for a GPE.

It's easy for them to go, right, OK, I was working there in 1997 and yes, there's my pension.

Or I was working there in 1998 and I don't have any pension and I know that's wrong.

So things like that are things that GPs can do just to kind of self-help is to ask for a service extract.

Possibly not do it now because people are so overwhelmed, but now.

Definitely, if you don't have one, have that on your to-do list to ask for a service extract at some point over the next few years so that you can sense check, right, have they got everything in my work history?

Have I got pension service for every year that I have worked?

Yes, definitely do at least once to check your statement is accurate.

And that will help determine whether you need to request further checks in future.

And that's quite possible that you might have to do that.

A good age.

We tend to find that it's the kind of earlier years.

that tend to be a little bit mixed up.

Or if you maybe have bounced around different countries in the UK, so you've maybe done your initial training in England and then you spent a chunk of your career in Northern Ireland or in Scotland, that can cause problems with your service history.
