Workload is a big thing and workload for our GPs is just increasingly demanding and influences the decisions that they're making in their career.

A lot of them will go and look at well, what else can I do so that I can reduce my reliance on general practice or partnership and free up a little bit of work life.

Life balance, that's the desire behind looking at things like a portfolio career or different jobs away from general practice.

Absolutely it is.

When we speak to our GP clients and they are anything from mid forties onwards, increasingly they are counting the days and they are starting to look at that point, how can I exit from this?

And it's not about the actual job itself, it's not about patient care.

It's about the frustrations around patient care and delivering the care that they want to deliver and all

Also all the peripheral things that they have to deal with, the increasing admin burden and all of that contributes to burnout and they just get to the point where they're frustrated, demoralised, burnt out, and starting to look at like, well, how soon can I go?

And that does tend to be

well earlier than the general UK population.

Yeah, good question.

I do think so.

And I think a lot of GPs do that as a compromise in that they they want to work.

But they want some balance back and they want to feel like they're going to work and they're not just spinning plates and running at a hundred miles an hour all the time.

And so looking at different roles can help them with areas that they already have expertise in.

So it helps them to kind of hone their expertise in in other areas.

But also use the skills that they already have built in general practice.

So it's not a

massive step for them to go into, for example, teaching or research or clinical leadership roles.

Those kind of things sit really nicely within the skills that a GP has.
