Because the truth of the matter is, when he did this during his first administration, China was only buying 13% of their rice crops from Brazil.
and after this happened during the first term and these tariffs were put in place they'd made three major investments in south america especially in brazil they started putting dollars into tearing down and burning down the rainforest so that they could increase cropland there number one number two they dumped millions hundreds of millions of dollars into helping improve the rail system
to get those crops from where they burnt down the rainforest to the harbors and then they spent hundreds of millions of dollars improving the harbor so that they could get more grain ships in there to haul these commodities back to china the net result is they went from buying 13 percent of their row crops from brazil to 33 percent now it's getting closer to 40.
And in addition to that, and I mean, I hate to just throw salt in the wounds, but to Anne's point, not only did Argentina sell these soybeans to China, they did it by waiving the taxes on there and making it more lucrative for the Chinese to buy.
So America gives Argentina $40 billion
And I think you could make a valid case that the reason they were able to waive those taxes and give up that income is they didn't need those taxes on those soybeans to fund the government anymore because we gave them $40 billion to do that.
So yeah, we're not only getting hit hard here, but we're getting screwed with our own dollars in the process.
