In the little town I grew up in and graduated from, a little town called Bolivar, Missouri, when I went to school there and graduated from high school, there were about 7,000 people.

It's a town of about 12,000 now.

It's in a county that went for Donald J. Trump by 82%.

And the local hospital administrator there did an article with NPR in this very Republican area where nobody talks politics, especially to criticize a Republican.

They went into the NPR station and sat down and said, listen.

We are breakeven at best.

Offering these critical care services in rural America, we're breakeven at best.

Under this big, beautiful bill, we're going to lose $3 million a year.

And that's going to mean cuts in services.

And we don't know where we're going to make it up.

So when the ambulance has to drive for an hour and a half instead of 10 minutes to get to your house, when you're, you know, you've got to be care flighted.

180 miles away to get treatment instead of being able to drive in an ambulance for 20 minutes, we're going to learn and we're going to learn the hard way.

So, yes, I think they're coming to grips with that.

Every time I hear somebody in rural America complain about Medicaid, I remember what my grandpa used to say to these folks.

He'd tell them, I'm really glad you can stand on the soapbox that LBJ and the Democrats built for you.

And I always thought that was a great line because the fact is nobody takes advantage of Medicaid more than rural America.

And I'm okay with that.

We made a decision in the 1960s that in this country, the wealthiest country on the face of the planet, it would be worth it to invest in the health care of our people.

And what we're learning out here in rural America with over 700 hospitals that were in danger of closing before the big, beautiful bill.

And now that number could be double or triple.
