And we want to require adolescents to make most of the important decisions about their own life.
I just the the the caveat.
are there there are kids who are are are at least temporarily are incapable of really thinking clearly.
And those include kids who who are are are significantly depressed.
By definition, depression i involves disordered thinking.
And there are times when our kids if if they're depressed, if they're seriously drug involved.
that are they're they're ridiculously deprived and they really just don't have the capacity to think random.
Then there are times when we have to override and they don't if they don't want to be in treatment, they don't want to go to therapy, we insist.
We override their decisions.
So we want to do that cautiously because every time the kid has kid says, I think I should do it this way and the as a parent we say, No, I think it's better you this way.
Every time we override the kid, part of what we're saying to kid is don't trust yourself.
Don't trust your own judgment.
I know better than you do.
And there are times, as I'm saying, where that's that's the case and where we have to do that.
But I think they're fairly they're they're fairly limited.
Uh they really really involve these cases where kids they they can't think straight.
I'm just working with a sixteen year old now who is out who has had a lot of psychopathic issues and is now um
He's sixty years old, he's going to school quite infrequently.
And his thinking is just he's just a little bit out of touch with reality.
