Zandi, when we talk about contraceptives, most people automatically think of the pill.
The two words are almost synonymous.
Yeah, the pill or condoms.
But the pill, I think, is particularly significant because it gave women control of their fertility, which allowed a huge change in our social world in the 20th century.
That's right.
And we've been hearing about the idea of a pill...
for men for many years, I'm curious about why we don't have one's aunt.
Is it because there are technical barriers to giving men a pill that reduce their fertility sufficiently to be an effective contraceptive without significant side effects?
Or is it because there isn't a market for one?
It's a big headline grabber.
My question for you and for male listeners, and you don't have to answer this out loud, is if a pill with the same side effect profile as the pill that women take for contraception, if that was invented for men, would you take it?
And I think part of the issue is the person who bears the primary risk of
when it comes to pregnancy, is of course the person who's going to be pregnant.
The reason I think it's interesting extends far beyond our listeners who would be involved in a decision about whether to take it.
It informs everything about how we understand the difference between men and women and the choices we all make.
It's a core topic to open up discussion about all kinds of things.

So I want to get a clear picture of how male fertility works in comparison to female fertility.
What the options are, like are there, beyond condoms, are there options in terms of male contraceptives?
