And I love the notion of, you know, cultural humility, which is accepting that um

The patient is the expert of their culture because culture is dynamic.

And it can be very easy to assume that, because uh patients come from a certain cultural background, that their beliefs are the same, but that's actually not true.

And that's why that relational piece becomes so important.

Because what matters to you?

What's important to you?

What do you want this birth to look like?

Um, but also still, um, and I really want to emphasize that relational piece, thinking about the trauma.

So if we know that the patient has had, you know, previous traumatic experience, we're asking those questions.

So I see you've had, you know, um a previous delivery.

Can you tell me about that delivery?

What were the good aspects?

What would you like to replicate?

And what would you like us to avoid where possible?

And I think even if uh the perfect delivery, which doesn't exist, I believe, um, cannot ever uh happen for the patient, the fact that those questions were asked.

is really, really important.

The f because what it shows is shows interest and that partnership.

So it's saying you had a previous bad experience or traumatic experience, and I don't want this experience to be similar.

And I think that really is what cements that relationship and that trust.

It's really important to remember that trauma can occur not because of outcomes, but because of how care is is delivered.
