They made an incision in the front of my neck at first, almost dime size.
Did the repair that way from that side.
And then you're strapped to the table and they flip you over.
And when they did that, it was like the surgeon said, like the whole lake came out of me.
Like it just, you know, empty out of my lungs.
So Lindsay got to me just in time because I definitely inhaled a lot of water and was probably seconds away from drowning and not recovering.
But that's what caused the strep throat.
And I even told Amy this, like,
That was the most uncomfortable part for me at the beginning, because all I wanted to do was drink something, even if like not tea or something soothing.
Like it was just like so dry and scratchy and my ears hurt.
And I just couldn't find a moment of peace, even with the painkillers.
At that point, they did do the trach, which was an incision, like right in the front of your, like what this is called.
Yeah, right in front of the throat.
It's called the tracheotomy.
And they cut a hole and put in a breathing tube.
And that's where you see the thick tube coming in.
And that's something that most quadriplegics have for life.
Because if your muscles aren't working below the point of your injury, there's nothing to move your diaphragms in and out.
So I thought that was going to be a forever thing.
