I do everything day by day.
Yes, I'm Zaire Calvin.
I'm a community organizer.
They call me the unofficial mayor of Altadena since we have a county supervisor.
Been working hard for the, you know, the protections of Altadena and making sure all the disaster capitalism to make sure that we're protected and building back.
A year from today, I lost my sister in the fire, lost five homes.
Lost cars, lost everything.
Just tremendous loss and then tremendous loss for the community.
And just been fighting ever since then.
I have a program that I run, extremeathletics.org, and that's focused on the eradication of type 2 diabetes and sports athletes and even our elders and our youth and mental health.
So...
That program helped ignite me along with me being a coach to do a lot of work in the community and lead the community as far as
trying to come back from this horrendous fire that happened.
I think believing in a higher power than God is in
giving me this power and strength to push through at this point to understand that it was his guidance.
Cause in the beginning it was to show my whole community, but also understanding that the black community, black and Brown community usually is underserved and underrepresented.
So in the beginning of it, it was,
to make sure that all those voices were heard also, especially since it's a black community, 80% home ownership, higher than the national average, and a lot of my elders.
So for that was my igniting message.
