And I know that part of her story was that when she originally received a, because her child had a life-limiting condition, when she originally received that diagnosis, there was nobody there
when they were telling it to her and her partner, there was no one there who was actually equipped even to deal with grief counselling, to talk to her about it, to talk her through it.
We kind of put people, like people go into a room, and of course not everyone has the same experience.
Some people have no issue with hospitals or GPs, but for a lot of people it's a very kind of scary or possibly intimidating scenario.
And we don't really take any sort of holistic approach to it.
We essentially are just, you know, you're in there, you hear your news, and that's kind of it.
And then like that, for that afterwards point, that there's no follow-up.
And I suppose the main point that I'm trying to get at is that I think we should have those supports in place.
But I also think that we can't discount the fact, like there has been cases in the public domain where, say, women were coerced into abortion by their partner.
And stuff like in-person appointments, having to meet with your doctor, that
provides, like the HSE has said that it provides better opportunities for a doctor to detect circumstances like that.
But I absolutely agree with the point.

No, I don't believe we should get rid of it.
And I think obviously we had a constitutional referendum on the issue of the unborn child.
in recent years and really kind of the rallying cry was out of choice and I don't see how facilitating a hasty decision necessarily promotes that and in some circumstances perhaps it could inhibit it and I think we've heard discussion today about you know not trusting women etc but I think we should also consider the importance of safeguarding
women who are in difficult situations maybe women who are facing pressure to take an abortion maybe by a partner and I think being given time to pause and to research and to reach out for help for other options would be incredibly important and I think it has been stated here today you know the notion of abortion regret I don't think anyone can definitively say here today that it does not exist
And I've certainly heard testimony that it does.
And I think the example has been given here on the show already of cooling off periods.
You know, at a minuscule level, our society values the opportunity to change one's mind, whether it's returning a skirt you bought that you don't like.
